Fired to Freedom tells my story about traveling after job loss and how you can evolve from the experience. I aim to inspire readers with strategies to bounce back and eventually cut the cord from the W2. It also tells my story of how I dealt with the problem of unemployment during the financial collapse of 2008. Thinking outside the box, I moved to Asia and taught English for about three years. I found a lot of opportunities and a new way of thinking I want to share for those pursuing financial independence.
Getting Canned
I originally created this blog as “Getting Canned” but decided to rebrand as “Fired to Freedom”. I intend to improve the site and focus more on social media and video content. If you clicked on a “Getting Canned Link” or came here from hearing me on an old podcast that means my 301 redirects are working!
On Job Loss
Job loss is an event many may experience at some point in life. I had the good fortune of losing my job right as the Great Recession of 2008 kicked off. This led to me being long-term unemployed for two years. For two years I struggled with having no job income until I decided to think outside the box to ensure this never happens again. This blog is about the lessons that followed and how you can avoid the struggle.
About Me
I’m a mid late 40’s guy who’s an investor, has some entrepreneurial experience, real estate investment experience, loves world travel, food, and computers.
After finishing up at my latest contract office job, I did a four-month mini-retirement in Taiwan to pursue a life with more freedom. This world travel wouldn’t have been possible without the many tools available to us all today. Believe it or not, after several months of travel I decided to return to work for the time being.
